The Sun in Gemini

The Sun ingressed into Gemini, The Twins on May 20, 2026 at 8:36pm EDT where it remains until June 21 at 4:25am EDT. The Gemini Twins are Castor and Pollux of Greek mythology. They are the Alpha and Beta stars in the constellation, both of them the brightest, first magnitude stars. Castor’s father was Zeus so he was immortal, while Pollux had a mortal father. When Pollux was killed, Castor asked Zeus to place their stars together in the heavens.

Who would you rather be? The immortal Castor or the mortal Pollux? Gemini, driven by curiosity asks questions. Gemini observes, always seeking new territory to explore. They move quickly, eager to experience as much of the world as they can.

Gemini’s element is Air. The other Air signs are Libra and Aquarius. Here’s some common ground:

  • None of them is symbolized by an animal. Of the twelve signs of the zodiac, seven are represented by animals. Aries the Ram and Leo the Lion (Fire element) Taurus the Bull and Capricorn the Goat (Earth element) and Cancer the Crab, Scorpio the Scorpion and Pisces the Fish (Water elements) The Air signs are Gemini the Twins, Libra the Scales and Aquarius the Water Bearer. (Aquarius is not a Water sign)
  • Thinking vs Feeling: Water signs are associated with emotions while Air signs are cognitive and identify more closely with thoughts, perception and information.
  • Air signs are interested in understanding themselves (Gemini), their relationships (Libra) and their world (Aquarius). They gather data, are objective and are less swayed by their emotions.

Since they share common ground, we can say Air signs are pretty friendly toward each other. But they are different. For example, in general Libra values partnership, while Aquarius prioritizes independence. Libra lessons have to do with discernment in relationship and building trust, while Aquarian lessons focus on individuality, freedom of expression and living life on your own terms.  Relationship does not look the same for these two.

Gemini the Twins and Libra the Scales have duality in common. Two siblings, two sides of the scale; both signs are comfortable with dual perspectives. But they have their differences. Libra balances and seeks harmony while Gemini’s nature is restless and excitable. Both Gemini and Aquarius are interested in exploring new territory however the fixed nature of Aquarius can clash with open-minded Gemini.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury, the Messenger of the Gods. So is Virgo, an Earth sign that uses and analyzes data in a useful, practical way. Mercury shows up a bit differently in this Air sign. First, we start with the idea that Mercury is the fastest planet in our solar system. A year on Mercury equals 88 days on Earth. Gemini, like its ruler, is quick. It’s efficient and can assimilate a great deal of information, data and facts with greater ease than most people. They don’t get anxious about it all being in order. Having said that we all have the planet Mercury placed in one of the 12 signs of the zodiac. While it has a natural resonance with the two signs it rules, different signs give it a different lens. For example, Mercury in Sagittarius seeks knowledge based on experiences that are foreign (literally!) The input is meant to extend beyond one’s own life circumstances or cultural values. Mercury in Pisces is extra intuitive. These people seem to read minds.

Communication is a Gemini keyword and it too has a dual nature, speaking and listening. Listening may not come as naturally to Gemini so they may need to cultivate this skill. Gemini asks question, being driven by insatiable curiosity. Having quick minds and quick wit, Geminis are captivating, able to converse on a wide variety of topics because they possess a wide variety of interests. Typically, they enjoy social interaction, are articulate and can become talented speakers, writers and journalists.

Gemini’s archetype are the Teacher and the Storyteller which is why they need to use their voices. They inspire us to ask questions, sparking a love of learning through their curiosity. Gemini can weave a tale, capturing an audience with their mastery over language. They expand our perception and create a sense of excitement and amazement. This is the reason that speaking feels more natural to them than listening. Think about the Geminis you know. My guess is most of them have better than average verbal skills. They have a way with words that draws us in, mesmerizing us.

Gemini is easily bored and if life becomes too dull or too routine, they find ways to re-invigorate by cutting loose anything that has become stale and predicable. That includes people too! One of my brothers is a Gemini and when we were kids, he used his sleight of hand to cheat at Monopoly and cards, not because he cared about winning but because playing the same games over and over grew tiresome. The tarot card that related to Gemini is the Magician. The Magician also correlates with how Gemini makes us think just like a wise teacher or the storyteller who ignites our imagination. Both of these archetypes open our minds to possibilities. The beauty of Gemini is the capacity to view the world with wonder and fascination.
